US SEC votes to end legal defence of climate disclosure rule

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) voted yesterday (27 March) to end the legal defence of its climate-related disclosure requirements for private companies.

Following legal challenges from States and business associations, the SEC opted to stay the enforcement of its climate rule last year.

SEC staff have now informed the US Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit – where the litigation has been consolidated – that the regulator yielded the opportunity to present oral arguments in defence of the rule.
